Riding Academy

The program which sets El Camino Ranch above and beyond other ranches is our finely tuned RIDING ACADEMY. We began giving lessons occasionally back in 1989. Since that time we have added a team of instructors, and a team of lesson horses ( ten calm, easy to handle, well trained and dependable Arabians, Half Arabians, and a few horses of other breeds), a curriculum of instruction, a schedule book full of lessons, birthday parties, Girl Scout activities, and other educational projects, along with many dedicated parents and individuals who make the weekly trek to El Camino. These are the back bone of this progressive program. We teach students, from age 5 years and up to tack up a horse, to mount a horse, to balance on the back of the horse, and to walk, trot, and canter/lope. As the student advances they may learn to ride a Saddle Seat horse, or to drive a pony in a cart. Our tiniest students, ages 3 and up, learn to groom a horse with our three Miniature Horses. A few more advanced students learn to jump a horse over cross rails, and perhaps up to three feet. Anything we can do SAFELY, we will do. In the summer, we add 6 or 8 weeks of Day Camp with horses, and during December and January, we conduct one to three weeks of Day Camp with Horses. In October El Camino hosts our annual Fall Festival. At this event our students participate in a horse and rider costume contest, a haunted walk, and an awards presentation where the students recieve a certificate of achievement that they have earned throughout the year. The certificate of achievement that each student earns is evaluated against the El Camino Ranch Levels of Achievements System.

Our lesson horses have all been professionally trained.  Several have been successful Show Horsees, and most all are 8 years old or older, and have calm, quiet dispositions, so that they are safe for children or new adult riders.  They are Arabians, Half Arabians, and a few are other breeds.  They will all challenge you to excel to any level you wish to achieve.  These very special mares and geldings are the jewels of the ranch, and are loved by every student who has ever ridden in the Riding Academy Program, or observed these dedicated horses. El Camino Ranch has been a dream come true for many girls, and women.  We also have helped young boys, and adult men become athletes on horseback.  We are a drug free, violence free environment, where you and your children can find a new recreation, new friends, and develop a life long PASSION for ARABIANS.
